The ‘Our Story’ project held a fundraising exhibition at the Hong Kong Pao Gallery in August 2024. If you missed the exhibition in-person, you can catch some of the amazing artwork of workshop participants below…

Street photography workshops

Street photography aims to capture the day-to-day stories a city has to tell. In these workshops, participants were introduced to the key tenets of street photography: finding little moments of connection and community in the hustle and bustle of urban life, and showcasing the beauty in the mundane.

Participants took part in a ‘walking workshop’, exploring the local Hong Kong area with the film cameras provided, and learning how to spot, frame and capture great shots of the city.

Watercolor workshops

In these watercolor painting workshops, participants took inspiration from their own life stories, responding to prompts such as “Then vs Now” and “My Hong Kong.” Many painted scenes from their childhood, exploring memories of their hometowns in rural parts of China or recalling the journeys they took to come to Hong Kong.

Mask-making workshop

This workshop, in which participants produced vibrant masks to wear at an upcoming event, focused on the theme of ‘identity’. Although participants knew they had to cover their faces for safeguarding reasons at their upcoming show, they were able to ensure that the masks themselves were a powerful representation of their personalities and cultural identities.

“I made this mask because it's from my country, it reminds me of my childhood and my culture.”
